Tim Huber, City of Myrtle Beach

Good Morning All,

On behalf of the City of Myrtle Beach and the management and staff at the Whispering Pines Golf Course, allow me to be the first to wish you a great weekend of competition.

This weekend is a great opportunity not only for the athletes, but also the staff, volunteers and organizing committee to prepare for the National Championships in December. We look forward to your feedback.

One modification to the information Linda provided below:
  • On Friday there will be parking at the Whispering Pines Golf Course for course preview.
  • On Saturday there will be NO PARKING at the course. All athletes, coaches, friends and family are to park along Radar Rd which is located across Harrelson Blvd from the course.
    • Myrtle Beach Police Officers will be on site to direction vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the safety of all.
    • Attached [at bottom of this web page] please find an information sheet and map.
Lastly, we are requesting  that each coach (or parent of an unattached athlete) please plan for 1 extra minute to complete a brief survey as  part of packet pick up.

Thank You,
Tim Huber

Meet Director's Note

Good Morning,

As we approach the Regional Championship there is some information that I would like to pass along.
  1. [Coach Matthew will pickup the packets on Friday.]  Packet Pickup will be open from 3 pm until 7 pm on Friday evening at the Sheraton Hotel in their Hall of Fame Room.  Hopefully we can post a sign with the directions to the location or you can ask at the front desk.  Your packets will be at the Course on Saturday Morning at 8 am if you are unable to get them on Friday.  We will only give unattached athletes their individual bibs. The Coach or their designee is the only person who will pick up the entire packet for the club.  Please inform your parents not to come and try to get their individual bibs/chips from the packets.
  2. Parking will be at the Course.  What you are reading on the National Website is for the National Championship.  There will be well over 3,000 athletes for the National Championship and therefore parking logistics will be different.  [Coach Matthew says: Information about parking can be found in the attachments below.]
  3. We will have a brief Coaches Meeting on Saturday at 8:45 am in the packet pickup area which will be located inside the clubhouse.
  4. We will be using timing chips.  The Timing Company is:  Perfect Timing Group
  5. Volunteers will be needed at the finish line to cut the chips off of the athletes shoes and place them in a bucket.  I will have 25 pair of scissors on hand.  We will lead the athletes into a chute after they finish their race to get their chips cut off.  We MUST get ALL of the CHIPS RETURNED. You can email me or I will have a sign up sheet at packet pick up.  We could also use a few volunteers on the course.
  6. When an Association hosts the Cross Country National Championship, they usually hosts the region Championship to work out any kinks prior to the National Meet.  With that said, we have set the meet up so we can run Region 4 and Region 16 together.  So that you do not worry about us getting things confuses, bibs from 1 -700 are Region 16 and bibs 701 -1400 are Region 4.  Running the meet in this fashion will not only give the athletes competition, it will allow us to see the course with larger numbers running. Advancement to the National Championship which will be held on the same course on Saturday, December 13th, will be top 30 individuals from each region/age group/gender.  The top 5 teams will also advance using the same criteria.
  7. Both information sheets have the specific age groups clerking in at the same time and that was done intentional so we would not have to change anything at the end.
  8. Awards will be given out as soon as the results are posted.  In the individual age groups the top 20 (in each region) get medals and 21st - 30th place get ribbons.  The top 3 teams ( each region) will receive medals. (At our Fall Youth Executive Board Meeting we voted to start giving the top 30 medals at the regional level and it will be effective in 2015).
  9. The Course will be open for walk through on Friday at 12:30 until around 5 pm when it starts getting dark.  The Course will reopen on Saturday for a walk through from 7:45 am to 9 am.
THE WEATHER FORECAST FOR SATURDAY IN MYRTLE BEACH......high temperature 63 degrees and sunny!

Wishing everyone safe travels to Myrtle Beach and if you have any further questions you can email or give me a call at (843) 319-0841

Kind Regards,

Linda E. Ellis
Youth Chair, South Carolina
Youth Secretary, USA Track & Field

Special Notes:
Region 4 is comprised of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.  However, since South Carolina is hosting the national championships, this year they become Region 16, a region reserved for hosts of national championships. This means that only Georgia and Florida will compete against each other for advancement to the national championships.  Both Region 4 and Region 16 will run together, but they will be scored separately.  I do not know if the athletes will be identified as Region 16 or 4 during the race using, for example, different bib #s, colored wigs, or body painting.

Meet Entry:
Entry into the meet [for the general public] is handled by the Coach O registration system.  You can visit this page to view participating teams and see the performance list.
