Junior Olympics Advancement

• General information regarding the Junior Olympics

• USATF Georgia Association Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, Morrow High School, Ellenwood, GA

  • Requirement: USATF age-verified membership.

  • Qualifying standards: No qualification needed, no qualifying times needed.

  • Advancement to Region 4: The Top 16 individuals and top 16 relay teams advance.

• USATF Region 4 Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, Florence, SC

  • Qualifying standards: The Top 16 individuals and top 16 relay teams advance from Association Championships.

  • Advancement to Nationals: The Top 8 individuals advance.

• USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, Savannah, GA

  • Qualifying standards: The Top 8 individuals advance from Region 4 Championships.

  • Note: Historically, the host association (Georgia in this case) becomes Region 16 and advances qualifiers straight from the Association Championships to the National Championships without having to compete in the Region 4 Championships. That is what the phrase "the host Association shall qualify a like number" signifies in the rule book. However, as of early May 2025 the National Office of USATF has not yet given the Region 16 designation to the Georgia Association. Our National Office liaison is working on our behalf to determine why. This means as of now athletes in the Georgia Association will need to compete in the Region 4 Championships to advance to the National Championships.

• Association Meet Schedule - When looking at the schedule, do not be confused by events with a similar name under the Combined Events section. In essence...

  • 800m run finals are Thursday night

  • 200m dash preliminaries are Friday night

  • Combined events (decathlon, heptathlon, etc.) are held during the day Thursday and Friday. Don't be confused by the schedule for the combined events.

  • Saturday is 3000m run final and sprint preliminaries

  • Sunday is the 1500m run final and sprint finals
